Books have seldom altered the arc of treaties. Interests write the fine print, not verses. Yet Modi has demonstrated that objects made in Indian village workshops and printed in Indian languages can carry scholarship into foreign palaces. Modi has made the ritual public and personal, choreographing each handover so that the photograph becomes part of the visit’s memory for posterity.
The choices of books as gifts trace a clear timeline and motivation. In December 2024 in Moscow, Modi gave Putin a Russian translation of the Bhagavad Gita, invoking St Petersburg’s old appetite for Sanskrit thought. In Bishkek in 2019,he presented Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov,the late economist’s Bibek Debroy’s 10-volume English Mahabharata, an epic of statecraft placed beside Kyrgyzstan’s own Manas cycle.In 2023, during his Washington visit, Modi gave President Joe Biden a first edition of The Ten Principal Upanishads, translated by Purohit Swami and W B Yeats, because Yeats himself had once been captivated by these Vedic texts.
To Elon Musk’s family, he offered a set of books which included Tagore’s Crescent Moon, R K Narayan’s stories of ordinary Indian life, and an illustrated Panchatantra. Modi expanded his literary gifting to include much more history and Indian diversity. Devotional and scientific texts followed a similar pattern. Slovak parliamentarians received the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita, ancient treatises on the body. Kazakhstan’s then-president Nursultan Nazarbayev was given a set representing India’s plural faiths: the Guru Granth Sahib, Jain and Buddhist manuscripts, and a Persian-language Ramayana.
Even the craft gifts followed the same chronology and character. At the 2022 G20 in Bali, Biden received Kangra miniature paintings in the shringar, or romantic, style; Britain’s Rishi Sunak received Mata ni Pachedi, sacred cloth painted by Gujarat’s Waghri community; Australia’s Anthony Albanese received a Pithora ritual painting from Rathwa artisans; and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni received double-ikat Patan Patola silk in a Sadeli mosaic box. At the 2022 G7 summit, Modi gave Biden a gulabi meenakari brooch and cufflinks, pink enamelwork on Varanasi silver; he gave Germany’s Olaf Scholz a nickel-coated Marodi brass vessel from Moradabad; and he gave France’s Emmanuel Macron attar perfume flasks wrapped in Lucknow zardozi embroidery and stitched in French tricolour threads. During the 2023 American State visit, Biden received a sandalwood chest from Jaipur containing a silver Ganesha idol and ceremonial items from Punjab, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand, while First Lady Jill Biden received a lab-grown green diamond set in Kashmiri papier-mâché.
Since Modi is a compulsive idea-smith, he added regional variety during a few visits. Meloni received Assam’s golden Muga silk; Dutch officials received Jaipur blue pottery; Norwegians received Odisha silver filigree boats; Iceland’s Prime Minister received a replica of Tenzing Norgay’s 1953 Everest ice axe; and the UAE received Kesar mangoes and Manipur’s black Chak-hao rice. Canada’s Mark Carney received a Bihari brass Bodhi tree, and Mexico’s president received a Warli tribal drawing from Maharashtra.
Each object mapped India’s regions onto its diplomacy. Other global leaders give gifts to visiting dignitaries as well. But the grammar of the gesture differs sharply from Modi’s. American presidents typically give gifts drawn from home: a pair of cowboy boots, a leather-bound biography of Lincoln, a piece of American crystal, or a framed photograph signed by the President. These gifts are simple, mass-producible and largely interchangeable from one visit to the next. British royal protocol favours a similar understatement. A gift from the sovereign is typically a signed photograph in a silver frame. The object is deliberately modest, so the relationship, not the item, carries the weight.
Chinese State visits favour matched pairs and porcelain instead. These gifts are chosen by protocol committees for their symmetry. They are rarely explained afterward, since the State speaks rather than the leader. Gulf monarchs favour extravagance, measured in carats and horses. Their gifts signal abundance rather than making an argument.
Modi’s method inverts this discretion entirely. Where other statecraft treats the gift as incidental, he treats it as both a statement and a message. He and his aides pick up gifts with enough specificity that they invoke curiosity and debate. A silver-framed photograph conveys hardly anything. But a Russian Thirukkural or an English Mahabharata provokes the recipient, with everyone watching, to sit with an idea for a moment.
Modi’s gifts are built around the guests’ own biography—Yeats for Upanishad, the Manas epic for the Mahabharata, a mountaineering memory for the ice axe. Where other traditions bury the exchange in archival footnotes, Modi amplifies for massive visibility, ensuring the object’s afterlife is public rather than curatorial. He has created a new style of diplomacy. In this style, the gift is not a courtesy; it is the message itself.
Earlier leaders treated cultural gifts as decoration. Modi treats them as strategy. He uses handicrafts and ancient texts to project a picture of India. This is a picture of a civilisation older than the modern State. It is also a picture that, in Modi’s telling, will outlast the modern State. Each book he gives carries more than literary value. A Thirukkural or a Mahabharata also carries a quiet political message. That message is rooted in cultural nationalism. It is wrapped inside the language of normal diplomatic protocol.
The hug offers warmth in the moment. The gift offers a longer-lasting claim. That claim is that Indian heritage is not confined to the past. It is a living force in the present. Modi wants world leaders to hold this idea in their hands, not just hear about it in a speech. By fusing golden tradition with strategy so precisely, he has changed what a diplomatic gift can do. Modi lived it. Seventeen years wandering India as a young man. Decades as an invisible party worker. The slow accumulation of credibility among people who had been ignored by coastal elites for generations. When he finally reached power, his authority wasn't borrowed from family legacy or institutional prestige. It was earned from direct contact with the electorate.
The international isolation he faced early on only strengthened this dynamic. When the US banned his visa and global media wrote him off, it confirmed to his base that the same forces dismissing him were the same ones dismissing them. External criticism became internal validation.
The political machine he built operates on a completely different logic than traditional party structures. Instead of relying on intermediaries, brokers, and established hierarchies, it communicates directly with the population through digital channels and mass rallies. The message bypasses traditional gatekeepers entirely.
This direct communication model is what allows Modi to maintain political dominance despite constant controversy. When media criticism reaches fever pitch, he simply speaks over it to his audience. The medium becomes irrelevant when you control the message.
What global observers consistently underestimate is how this approach scales. A leader who can hold the attention of 1.4 billion people and win repeated electoral mandates has mastered something that transcends cultural boundaries. The techniques translate. The psychology transfers.
Modi's story reveals the future template for democratic leadership in an era of institutional collapse. Outsiders with lived experience, direct communication channels, and deep cultural fluency will consistently defeat insiders with credentials, institutional backing, and media support.

और बारह पुलिसकर्मियों सहित डेढ़ सौ से ज्यादा लोगों का मर्डर किया था,
जिसमें राधिका जिमखाना मर्डर बहुत प्रसिद्ध हुआ था।
लतीफ ने सोने चांदी की स्मगलिंग, ड्रग्स की स्मगलिंग, इत्यादि में अरबों रुपए कमाया और उसमें नेताओं को भी हिस्सा जाता था।
यदि लतीफ या लतीफ के गैंग के किसी गुर्गे को कोई हिंदू लड़की पसंद आ जाती थी…
तो वो रातों-रात उठा ली जाती थी.
जब चाहे तब किसी हिंदू का बंगला दुकान खाली करवा लेता था ...
उस समय भारतीय जनता पार्टी गुजरात में संघर्ष के दौर में थी
नरेंद्र मोदी, शंकर सिंह वाघेला, केशुभाई पटेल साइकिल, स्कूटर पर चप्पल पहन कर घूमते थे।
एक दिन गोमतीपुर में बीजेपी की एक सभा थी।
भाषण देते देते केशुभाई पटेल ने जोशमें बोल दिया कि,
जब भारतीय जनता पार्टी की सरकार आएगी,
तब अब्दुल लतीफ का एनकाउंटर करवा दिया जाएगा
बोलने के बाद वह डर गए।
उनकी सुरक्षा बढ़ा दी गई,
लेकिन गुजरात की जनता के अंदर एक संदेश गया कि आखिर यह कौनसी पार्टी के लोग हैं,
जो अब्दुल लतीफ के गढ़ में उसके एनकाउंटर करने की बात कर रहे हैं,
और केशुभाई पटेल के इस भाषण के बाद जब चुनाव हुआ,
तब गुजरात में बीजेपी की ३५ सीटें आई,
जो अपने आप में बहुत बड़ी विजय थी।
उसके बाद बीजेपी ने अब्दुल लतीफ और उसके गुर्गों के खिलाफ मोर्चा खोला..
और अगले चुनाव में बीजेपी की पूर्ण बहुमत की सरकार बन गई,
और अपने वायदे के मुताबिक शंकर सिंह वाघेला ने अब्दुल लतीफ का एनकाउंटर करवा दिया।
अब्दुल लतीफ का एनकाउंटर भी बड़े जोरदार तरीके से हुआ था।
शंकर सिंह वाघेला के सामने डीएसपी जाडेजा साहब आए,
और बोले सर लतीफ का एनकाउंटर करना चाहता हूं,
क्योंकि इसने मेरे इंस्पेक्टर झाला का मर्डर किया था,
जब वह अपनी गर्भवती पत्नी को देखने छुट्टी पर जा रहा था।
अब्दुल लतीफ को गिरफ्तार किया गया,
और नवरंगपुरा स्थित पुराने हाईकोर्ट में उसकी पेशी होनी थी
पेशी के पहले डीएसपी जाडेजा ने कहा, दाबेली खाओगे ?
लतीफ ने हां बोला,
तो उसकी हथकड़ी खोल दी गई,
और फिर उसे ८ गोली मार दी गई,
और मीडिया में कह दिया गया,
लतीफ ने नाश्ता करने के लिए हथकड़ी खुलवाई,
और भागने की कोशिश कि, जिसके फलस्वरूप वह मारा गया।
उसके बाद शंकरसिंह वाघेला ने एक और बहुत अच्छा काम किया कि, 
और अगले चुनाव में बीजेपी की पूर्ण बहुमत की सरकार बन गई,
उन्होंने अशांत धारा एक्ट लागू कर दिया। यानी गुजरात के विभिन्न शहरों में बहुत से इलाके चिन्हित कर दिए गए,
और इन इलाकों में किसी हिंदू की प्रॉपर्टी कोई मुस्लिम नहीं खरीद सकता,
और उसके बाद बीजेपी गुजरात से होती हुई मध्य प्रदेश, राजस्थान, छत्तीसगढ़, उत्तर प्रदेश, बंगाल इत्यादि अन्य सब जगह बढ़ती चली गई,
और आज केंद्र में सत्ता में है।
और जो एजेंडा भारतीय जनता पार्टी का शुरुआती दौर में रहा है वही एजेंडा आज भी है उसी एजेंडे पर भारतीय जनता पार्टी आज भी काम कर रही है
इसीलिए
बीजेपी और मोदी को बिना प्रश्न किये साथ दे,
छोटी-छोटी बातों में मोदीजी और बीजेपी का विरोध ना करें
और उन्हें अपना पूरा समर्थन दें,
ताकि वे अपना काम पूरी शिद्दत से कर सकें।
