RSS Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh

6 May 2026

This video event was a part of broader opposition pressure on the Indira Gandhi government to act faster in support of the Bangladesh Liberation War (also called the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War). The Jana Sangh was the political wing closely linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). What is the RSS? The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is a voluntary, grassroots Hindu nationalist organization in India. It's a cultural and character building movement focused on Hindu unity, discipline, patriotism, and social service. It does not have formal membership but has millions of participants and runs a network of affiliated groups (the Sangh Parivar), including the BJP (its indirect political successor). The RSS is not a political party itself, it stays “above politics” and focuses on long term nation building, but it has profoundly influenced Indian right wing politics and society. History of the RSS: Founding: Established on 27 September 1925 in Nagpur by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, a physician and freedom fighter influenced by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s ideas of Hindutva (Hindu cultural nationalism). Political and ideological influence: In 1951, RSS-backed leaders (with Shyama Prasad Mookerjee) founded the Jana Sangh as a nationalist alternative to Congress. After merging into the Janata Party (1977), it re-emerged as the BJP in 1980. The Jana Sangh/BJP lineage introduced ideas like “Integral Humanism” (Deendayal Upadhyaya), Uniform Civil Code, and strong national security. The RSS provided disciplined cadres during the anti-Emergency movement and later supported movements like the Ram Temple campaign. RSS/Jana Sangh and the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War Context: Pakistan’s military crackdown (Operation Searchlight, March 1971) led to a brutal genocide in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), killing an estimated 3 million, displacing 10 million refugees into India (mostly Hindus targeted), and widespread atrocities including mass rape. Jana Sangh’s role (RSS’s political wing at the time): It was among the most vocal Indian opposition parties demanding immediate recognition of Bangladesh and military aid to the Mukti Bahini (Bangladeshi freedom fighters). The 25 May 1971 Delhi rally shown in this post was one such public demonstration to pressure the government. Later, Jana Sangh organized a “Recognise Bangladesh Satyagraha” (1–11 August 1971) ending in a huge rally outside Parliament on 12 August. Leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee (then a Jana Sangh MP) and young activists (including Narendra Modi, who participated) pushed hard for faster action. The RSS itself passed formal resolutions in 1971 framing the crisis as “Bharat’s duty,” highlighting the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Hindus and Hindu-rooted ethnic Bengalis, humanitarian concerns, and national security. RSS volunteers reportedly helped maintain law and order inside India, donated blood first, and supported the war effort. The organization publicly backed Indira Gandhi’s government during the actual war. India ultimately recognized Bangladesh on 6 December 1971 and intervened militarily; the war ended with Pakistan’s surrender on 16 December. 1:52PM 6 May 2026

In Indian politics, leaders are often compared to great historical figures. In this vein, Amit Shah is sometimes called the Chanakya of the modern era. But as attractive as this comparison may seem, it is equally incomplete. The truth is that to understand Amit Shah, there is no need to view him through someone else's lens - he is a leader with his own distinct identity and style. The greatest strength of Amit Shah's politics lies in his organizational ability and electoral strategy. He played a crucial role in strengthening the Bharatiya Janata Party down to the booth level. While Chanakya served as an advisor to kings in ancient India, Amit Shah works in a modern democratic system, establishing direct dialogue with the people. His strategy is not limited merely to gaining power; it also focuses on expanding the organization and empowering workers. His working style reveals meticulous planning, data-driven decisions, and a deep understanding of ground realities. This is why the BJP achieved unexpected success in many elections. But labeling him simply as "Chanakya" limits his modern political skills. He is neither an advisor to any king nor a strategist who stays behind the scenes - he stands visibly in the front line of leadership. Amit Shah's identity is that of a leader who has the ability to turn challenges into opportunities. Whether it is expanding the organization, electoral strategy, or policy decisions - his distinct mark is evident in every area. His politics is a blend of tradition and modernity, in which the balance of technology, management, and public relations is clearly visible. Therefore, calling Amit Shah "Chanakya" is perhaps an oversimplification. He is not a replica of some historical image, but a leader who crafts a new political style suited to his times.
Amit Shah, not Chanakya - Amit Shah is who he is, and that is his greatest identity 8:04PM 5 May 2026

Yuri Bezmenov's Ghost on X: "India under Modi is using state power to raise a collective ethno Hindu-national consciousness through Hindutva. Nothing has changed that. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the public face of a much larger project. It runs through two closely linked institutions: the" / X  institutions: the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, or RSS, the Hindu nationalist volunteer network founded in 1925, and the Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP, the party Modi leads and that has governed India since 2014. The RSS supplies the worldview, discipline, cadre, and ground network. The BJP supplies the electoral vehicle and the levers of state power. Together, they have turned historical grievance into mass identity, institutional control, and a self-feeding cycle of rupture, awakening, and repair.
The pattern is familiar: first comes the wound, then consciousness-raising, then political repair.
In India, the process is unusually disciplined because it is backed by a dense organizational ecosystem. The wound creates the emotional charge. The RSS turns that wound into a unified Hindu identity that cuts across caste, language, sect, and region. The BJP converts that awakened identity into votes, mandates, and state action. Each victory becomes proof that the awakening works, which feeds the cycle again. In Hindutva’s story, the wound is civilizational fracture. Hindu India was broken by centuries of foreign rule: first Islamic conquest and empire, then British colonialism. Political power was lost. Cultural control was imposed from outside. After independence in 1947, the injury supposedly continued through “pseudo-secularism,” where the Hindu majority was treated as the safe default group while minorities received special protections through personal laws, institutions, and political patronage. In this telling, Hindus became politically scattered, divided by caste and region, and cut off from their own civilizational memory. The past becomes a live political problem. The core people of India were broken, and now they must remember who they are. That is where consciousness-raising begins. Savarkar’s early Hindutva framework moved “Hindu” beyond private worship and ritual into a broader cultural-national identity. Hindu became a civilizational category, capable of folding Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists into one larger peoplehood. The goal was national formation. The RSS is the daily machine that plants this identity. Through local shakhas, or branches, volunteers are shaped by drills, songs, talks, discipline, and shared stories of Hindu history and unity. The RSS produces cadre. It builds memory. It trains people into a shared identity and plugs them into a wider social network. The BJP then turns that formation into state power. Since Modi came to national office in 2014, the BJP has used government to deliver visible symbolic and institutional wins. The Ram Temple at Ayodhya is the clearest example: a civilizational wound turned into a state-backed victory, broadcast as proof that history is being repaired. Other moves, including the Citizenship Amendment Act, textbook changes, welfare schemes wrapped in national-unity rhetoric, and the broader language of Bharat, follow the same pattern. The state becomes the instrument of civilizational repair. That is why the cycle keeps strengthening. The wound justifies the awakening. The awakening wins elections. Elections produce state action. State action becomes proof. Proof deepens the awakening. West Bengal Elections in April 2026 are an example. Results on 4 May 2026 and 5 May 2026
The recent state votes only reinforce the pattern. The BJP took West Bengal and retained Assam, while communists lost Kerala. For Hindutva politics, Bengal especially matters: another hostile region pulled into the saffron map, another symbolic conquest, another sign that the machine still works. 11:36AM 5 May 2026
