We did it because this land is historically a bridge between West and East, it is a land of dialogue at the center of the Mediterranean, of that middle sea that connects the two great maritime spaces of the globe, the Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific. That sea is also represented in the symbol that Italy has chosen for this Italian presidency, together with another symbol of our identity, the centuries-old olive tree with its solid roots, its branches projected into the future.
