BRICS

26 August 2023

1. Brahma Chellaney tweets: "With just five members, BRICS has struggled to shape a common identity and agenda and become a unified and relevant force on the global stage. Now that task will become harder with the admission of six new members. The new admissions appear to bear the stamp of China, which, with Russia's backing, was aggressively pushing for BRICS's expansion. Just as China let India join the SCO only with Pakistan, BRICS, in addition to rivals India and China, will now have three new pairs of geopolitical rivals: Iran and Saudi Arabia; Egypt and Ethiopia; and Brazil and Argentina. (Argentina's entry had Brazil's support.) The lone exception in the new members' list to such geopolitical pairing is the UAE, whose admission India insisted upon." “This membership expansion is historic,” exulted Xi.

Alexander Dugin tweets on the conflict between Israel and Plaestine
"Multipolarism is strengthening, the intensity of Western hegemony in the collective non-West is weakening. The West's allies in the Islamic world - especially Turkey and the Saudis - do not automatically follow every order from Washington. This is the situation in which the Islamic pole, which recently provocatively joined the BRICS, will be put to the test.
Of course, the conflict could spread to other territories. The involvement of Iran and Hezbollah cannot be excluded, which means the potential transfer of hostilities to the territories of Lebanon and Syria. In Israel itself, there are enough Palestinians who fiercely hate Jews. All this could have unpredictable consequences. In my opinion, the US and the globalists will try to shut everything down now, as they can achieve nothing good from further escalation. One more thing: the analogies between separatism, irredentism, etc. in different regions of the world are no longer valid. The West recognizes both territorial unity and the right of peoples to secede when it benefits them and does not recognize them when they are not beneficial. There are no rules. In fact, we should treat the matter the same way (and indeed we do). What is favorable to us is right." https://twitter.com/Agdchan/status/1710607550326943989

1. On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of BRICS, we have taken the decision to expand this forum. India has always fully supported this expansion. Such an expansion will make BRICS stronger and more effective. In that spirit, India welcomes Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and UAE into the BRICS family.

6.
BRICS is not competing with anyone and does not oppose anyone, but the establishment of a multipolar world order has irreconcilable adversaries, Russian President Vladimir Putin said by video link at the BRICS Plus/Outreach meeting:

2. BRICS leaders have pledged to reform the international order, to create more development opportunities for poorer countries. The leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa have spoken on the second day of their summit in Johannesburg. Chinese President Xi Jinping was the most vocal on what he sees as an unfair global system dominated by the West. The Chinese leader took a veiled swipe at US-led alliances, calling on BRICS nations to reject exclusive blocs and oppose ideological rivalry.

Leaders of BRICS nations gathered in Johannesburg today. China and Russia pushed for an aggressive expansion of the grouping. But India and other members want to take a more selective approach. Palki Sharma brings you a recap of the day's events.

6. "Brazilian President Lula da Silva calls for abandoning the dollar in trade between the BRICS countries: “If I trade with China, then why should I use dollars for this? Brazil and China are large enough countries to use their own currency or another base currency, ” the EFE agency quotes him as saying. https://twitter.com/Sprinter99800/status/1694256270293795127

1. Brazilian President Lula da Silva, the Republic of China President Xi Jinping, President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, Prime Minister of India Narender Bhai Modi, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov joined together on XV BRICS Summit on 22 - 24 August 2023. Three day summit concludes on 24 August 2023.
Currently, the #BRICS countries collectively represent around 40% of the world's total population and consist of an inclusive bloc. Numerous #GlobalSouth nations have looked to BRICS for representation in addressing global challenges like food crises and climate issues.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 22, in his opening remarks on the second day of the 15th BRICS Summit, presented his five pieces of advice to BRICS nations, which include combining growth in space and research, the preservation of ‘big cats’ and the promotion of traditional medicines. “To come to a beautiful city like Johannesburg once again is a matter of joy for me and my delegation. This city has deep and old relations with Indians and Indian history. At a distance from here is located Tolstoy Farm the construction of which was done by Mahatma Gandhi 110 years back. By connecting the great ideas of India, Eurasia and Africa, Mahatma Gandhi placed a strong foundation of our unity and harmony," said the Prime Minister. "To make BRICS a future-ready organisation, we will need to make our respective societies also future-ready, and technology will play an important role in this," he added.

3. The security of outer space faces grim challenges. This is fundamentally because of the US quest for space dominance, characterization of space as a “battlefield”, pouring resources into space military capabilities and focus on building space military alliances.

4. BRICS NEWS: Chinese President XI Jinping’s statements: - BRICS countries should oppose economic coercion and focus on business cooperation. - BRICS countries should expand political and security cooperation, and maintain peace and tranquility. - Cold War mentality persists today, geopolitical situation is grim. - China is ready to cooperate with all parties to establish a mechanism for sustainable industrial exchange and cooperation in the BRICS countries.

5. Human history will not end with a particular civilization or system. #BRICS countries need to champion the spirit of inclusiveness, advocate peaceful coexistence between civilizations, and promote respect of all countries in independently choosing their modernization paths. https://twitter.com/SpokespersonCHN/status/1694342466600665502

1. De-dollarization is inevitable. #BRICSSummit2023 The more the US uses dollar as a weapon, the more countries in Global South are realizing they need to do something about it. Currencies of all 5 BRICS countries start with "R", so it's the "5 Rs vs. 5 Eyes."

2. XI Jinping wants peace, prosperity, and happiness around the world. Peace - No War is the slogan.

Xi Jinping: "China's economy is an Ocean not a puddle. Sometimes Ocean is calm, sometimes stormy. Change of weather can wipe out a puddle but Ocean will still be Ocean. China is eternal"
